I enjoy assisting individuals, couples, families, and groups along their journey toward healing, recovery, and connection. The journey will be hard, but I'll help you along the way. I am a compassionate and creative counselor, specializing in relationship issues, addiction treatment, and trauma work.
I have a keen ability to connect the dots in therapy, drawing on my specialized training in trauma and emotion. I know that past experiences impact you greatly in the here and now, and so, I combine shame and trauma work with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and find that this powerful combination helps clients improve more effectively.
I have receive specialized training with Pia Mellody and Brené Brown. I have recently become a Certified Daring Way (TM) Facilitator. I am EMDR level I and II trained. I also have specialized training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples.
I received my Master's of Science in Family Therapy from Texas Woman's University. I completed my undergraduate degree at University of North Texas, majoring in Rehabilitation with an Addictions minor. My clinical experience includes providing counseling at TWU's student clinic, providing family therapy at a residential facility for adjudicated juveniles, working at a residential facility for adults with addictions and co-occurring mental health issues, and providing counseling at my own private practice, Karen Stone Counseling.
My areas of practice in counseling include, but are not limited to: Addictions, Depression and Anxiety, Self-esteem Issues, Couples, Marriage, & Other Relational Issues, Grief, Trauma, Family of Origin, Stress, and Codependency Transitions.
